Ghost Town
Woke up breathin’ in last year’s air-
takin’ hits from some memory pipe Mother Nature shares…
Mmm, mm…
Bundled-up with you- while poetry lingered
I could swear, I’m still there tracin’ steps and your lips
with my finger…
So I took a drive back there…
But all I’ve found…
Is this old Ghost town…
Staring at me while your skin blossomed rose-
From the cold of the air, take me back there-
And I’ll kiss your nose…
Mmm, mmm….
Shaking each step that led to your car door,
Only now do I see-
I don’t get nervous anymore…
So I went lookin’ for your old space….
But all I found…
Is that ole’
Ghost town…
And it stains your tongue like a cigarette…
’Cuz words are all that’s left…
And the taste of passion’s still on your breath…
Who are you tryin’ to kid??
…And I find myself-
Still choked-up ‘round you
Like you spiked your kiss with superglue…
Don’t be so surprised- find me eating paste
To hold myself together…
Drove past my house to that reservoir-
I remember the dress made of moonlight the ripples wore…
And the things that we swore…
And the Christmas lights Heaven hangs up tall-
I can’t recall seein’ anything
So beautiful…
…Till I pictured you.
Now all- I find…
is a night- I can’t rewind…
And all…I found…
Is a moon that frowns…
…Couldn’t find you aroundIn that ole
ghost town……I call home.
